Celebrities on Twitter. In some ways the world seems to revolve around them. What they wear, who they date, what they say and do. Whether good or bad, we tend to worship the ground they walk on or despise everything about them.

Why Are We So Enthralled with Celebrities on Twitter? Before the advent of social media, we learned what we could from fan magazines, tell all rags. Now we don’t have to wait for a reporter to tell or spin; now we can hear it directly from the celebrity themselves. Twitter seems to be their favorite venue. Their thoughts and words in 140 characters.

Name a celebrity and more likely than not you can find them on Twitter.

People like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake and Brittney Spears. Politicians use it too, from bad boys like Anthony Weiner to Congressmen like Ted Cruz and even the President and First Lady. Former presidents too like Bill Clinton. Hillary just joined this year.

Now we use Twitter to watch celebrities rise to fame and crash and burn. We can defend them, or trash them along with others. We can let them know we approve or disapprove of their antics.

What’s the best part of them being on Twitter? Interaction. Yes, you can send your own 140 character thoughts to your favorite celebs whenever you want. Even better, if they follow you back, you can trade direct messages, and you KNOW they can see the things that you post on your Twitter feed.

Who hasn’t felt the thrill of a retweet from their favorite celeb? The rush of that direct message? Better yet, because Twitter verifies the accounts of celebs, we can be sure that the account for Kim Kardashian is really her account. Twitter contacts the account owner and verifies that it is, indeed, the celebrity. Now, whether they are writing the tweets is another subject entirely. Earlier this year it was discovered that a ghost writer was posting for former Star Trek star George Takei. Many younger celebs do write their own, so take it all with a grain of salt.

So, follow your favorite celeb, connect and have fun!
